#ILoveDelphi How About You?

#ILoveDelphiFebruary 14th is Delphi’s birthday (and some other holiday). What a great time to talk about how much we love Delphi.

I moved from Basic to Turbo Pascal back in the DOS days, and then started using Delphi with version 2. Since then I’ve used a number of other development tools, including Objective-C, Java, JavaScript, C# and others. Delphi has always been my favorite. It is the tool I turn to when I need to get something done quickly, and it is the bar which I use to measure every other development tool (and none of them measure up).

My son took a class in JavaScript through school. He was really frustrated with it, and wanted to give up programming. I told him I’d be happy to sit down with him again and teach him Delphi (I’d done it a few times in the past, but he lost interest). He reluctantly agreed. After a few minutes he was blown away. All the major frustrations he had from JavaScript was alleviated right away. Soon he created a mobile app that was useful and solved a problem for him in one of his games. He was telling his mom about how much better Delphi is than JavaScript when he said “No wonder everyone loves Delphi, it is the best!”

What about you, why do you love Delphi? Create a video, a blog post or whatever works for you, and share it with the hash tag #ILoveDelphi.

Questions for Marco Cantu and Cary Jensen

Marco Cantu has a new Delphi 2010 book coming out.  Cary Jensen has a new Advantage Database Server 10 book coming out.  Together they have their Delphi Developer Days coming up.  Now is your chance to ask them about any of these topics, or get their opinion on any other news in the Delphi community, or stump them with a technical question.  Post your questions or vote for other questions.  I’ll do my best to ask the top questions.

I’ve setup a separate Uservoice forum for your questions.  Be sure to log-in so I can ask you questions in case I need more information!  Anonymous questions are OK too though.

The interview is scheduled for 9 PM Pacific Time on Wednesday the 24th.  Get your questions in before then!

Upcoming Michael Rozlog Interview

I need your questions!

Michael Rozlog has agreed to an interview.  I am planning to discuss his roll as the Delphi Product Manager, the Delphi Survey, the Delphi Road Map and your questions from the comments on this post.  The interview is scheduled for Thursday, so I need your question before then.  Try to keep the question short and succinct.  If you have a bug report, please use QC.  If you have an issue in QC then please include the QC number.

If you would like to email me an audio question or use the Delphi Hot Line to submit a question you can do that too.  My email address is thepodcast@delphi.org or call (361) 4Delphi.  You can also post your questions to a special user voice forum, which might be the best way so I can ask you questions back about your question.

UPDATE: Listen to the interview.
